I have 20 minutes before the bus drops off SkyWalker. Both girls are napping and it is lovely. We had a pumpkin painting playdate this morning and because we were home/Chewie was fed enough/active enough/the planets were aligned enough/ she actually took a decent morning nap. Which will hopefully also mean a decent afternoon nap and then a decent night. We were thrown off when we had to postpone lunch so we could bring new pants to SkyWalker at school. And they were barely wet! He could have made it. They don't even smell like pee!
Balance. People. The balance, she eludes me. I strive for it everyday and everyday it slips from my fingers.
surgery still sucks.
Since the napping rule started the jedi and I have fallen into a routine. Please note, I did not say a nice routine. It goes something like this: SkyWalker refuses to go to sleep at 8 and instead we keep finding him on the stairs wanting to A) tell me he loves me all day or B) want to know what we're watching. He also wakes up in the middle of the night crying because various body parts hurt or whatever excuse he can come up with. My alarm goes off at 6, I turn it off, take my temp and wait for my second alarm--my children. But because my children are sleeping like crappity-crap, they are either waking up at 8 or not at all and I'm waking up at 8. Leaving me with precious little time to get all 3 of us dressed and fed and out the door. Particularly when I have to wrestle both of them to get them dressed. I tried to put a bow in the Princess hair this morning and I should have just cut her ears off instead, since she was giving me the same struggle. SkyWalker has actually had 2 dry nights in a row (I'm not ready to say it's the napping), which means he's not getting himself dressed in the morning. And he fights me tooth and nail. I get them dressed and out the door and leave behind dishes in the sink, dirty cereal still in them dishes, milky towels and tableclothes and a general mess. When we get home we have lunch and then the naptime fight. I have no idea how long he actually falls asleep, but I do not think it's long. It's probably half an hour or so. So I have to repeatedly go up there and tell him to get back in bed and stop playing and have to listen to him tell me he's not tired and he wants me to stay because he just really loves me--all for a half hour nap? That screws up the night and is leaving us exhausted in the morning? If he continues having dry nights I suppose I'll have to just deal... and force myself to get out of bed earlier. I keep thinking about next year when he's in kindergarten. What the hell am I going to do then? It's going to be so early! Although maybe that will be good. Maybe Vader will have to actually help out and stand out at the bus stop with him. Because if I have to get both of them dressed, in addition to myself and stand outside at 7 something in the morning, I will begin screaming now and not stop for the next 17 years.
Joy!
Vader took SkyWalker to preschool this morning* and when I called later to see how he did at drop-off, Vader said he was absolutely fine. Not sure if our definitions of fine were the same I asked if he clung to him and asked him not to go and had to pulled off by the teacher. Nope. He sat at the table to do his name like he's supposed to, gave Vader a high five and knuckles and that was it.
SkyWalker is napping.
that keep me sane.
During snack time SkyWalker and I discussed what he wanted to get Vader for Christmas. He said "train." I laughed. Here we go again. I said "Are you sure he wants a train?"
"Yes. Gordon. Daddy and SkyWalker like Gordon."
Then I said "What about a CD?"
"A CD??"
"Yeah. Music that he likes."
"We have one CD, we don't need two" as he holds up one finger for emphasis.
This from the boy who wanted to get another Stepney train for his father's birthday.
There's all sorts of crap going on with FIL that I don't want to get into here. Short version: I don't think there's much time left.
The Princess has been rolling over on her tummy at naptime. What's so unusual about that? She's still FULLY SWADDLED. This is supposed to be impossible. At the very least it is not safe. So I've begun the unswaddling process... I tried cold turkey yesterday and nearly went insane. Today I've been leaving one arm out. It took her over an hour to fall asleep for her second nap. It was not a pleasant afternoon.
For those of you dying to know... I have chosen the celadon color for my matron of honor dress. Now I need to find a little dress in the same color for the Princess. Because I am one of "those moms."
Speaking of "those moms", I am wearing capris that don't look like capris because I'm so short and me legs are cold but I am wearing them anyway because SkyWalker picked them out. He picks out my clothes for work. Usually he's pretty good, but he insisted on the capris today. And a black sparkly shirt that he's been eyeing all week.
Both of them were up last night. I am SO TIRED. That is the hardest part about having two kids...trying to synchronize naps so you can get something done... hoping that they both sleep through the night. If one does, the other is up for some reason. Last night they alternated. It was ridiculous.
We need to leave the house at 8:45 tomorrow morning to make it to soccer on time. I will be getting home around 9:30 tonight, watching Scrubs and the Office and I'll need to shower. Argh. I hope they sleep tonight...
I have listened to my child scream and cry and call "Mommy" "tuck-in" and "flashlight" for probably 20 minutes or so. I hate daylight savings time. I really do. We both got up "late" and I had to take care of him and the dogs because Vader left before 8 am to go to some Kiwanis breakfast. And then from there he went straight to work. He'll be home "dinnertime" which means who the hell knows when. SkyWalker is all upset because he didn't want to take a nap (despite standing and screaming at the gate: "NAP!"), he kept getting out of bed and was just all around disobedient. I tucked him in 3 times but he kept getting out of bed. I took his flashlight away when he refused to lay down. I'm pretty sure he's in his bed right now because his screaming for me has changed location. I can only hope he will take an actual nap because I really need to get more ointment in my eyes. And when I put it in I can't see for a while. That's not very good when you're home alone with a toddler and two dogs. This morning sucked ass but he watched his fire truck movie so at least he stayed on the couch next to me. I do not want him watching any more TV/movies today (I'm one of those limiters) and the idea of him just playing with me blind is not a very comforting one.
Of all weekends for Vader to voluntarily go in to work. This really sucks. He did have to take a half day on Friday because of me, but this *really* sucks. And he's working next weekend too. Thanks.
I don't know how I'm going to do this for another week. Not only do I have to drive with my glasses, work with my glasses (I can't see very well with my glasses to begin with), I have to put this crap in my eyes 3 times a day! And I'm pretty sure 2 of those times are going to be at work. Which means I'll be sitting there completely unable to see. In a LIBRARY. I really should have insisted on drops. They might sting more but I don't remember not being able to see. Makes sense since the ointment is goopy and covers the whole eye ball. Ugh, What a pain in the ass.
There is silence. I know as soon as I put this stuff in my eyes he will wake up. Or the dogs will bark and he will wake up.
Have I mentioned how much this sucks?
And posting from work. Because it is slow and Saturday and I shouldn't be here.
Yesterday was my day off. SkyWalker and I went for a little walk outside. He insisted we go even though I told him it was cold. I don't like leaving the house past August. Anyway, we're walking in the dogs' yard and he says "What's that?" and points to the bush that he's seen a million times and I say "It's a bush" and then I see it--a snake!! AAAH! It was dead and folded up in a rather odd way. At first I thought for sure the dogs must have done it, but now I don't know. They sniffed at it but they weren't playing with it like they knew it was there. So I'm starting to think it was a surprise to them too. Anyway, I wanted to immediately go inside, but SkyWalker would have none of that. I got him to leave the dogs' yard but then he wanted to go right back there. Not only was it wet and muddy and cold, there was a dead snake there! Ew. I hate snakes. With a passion. Total irrational fear. As soon as Vader came home I told him he had to deal with it. He went outside, picked it up and we watched him walk to the very back of the yard, to the woods, and fling it. Gross.
My brother and his friend are here finishing the roof. My mom and sister-in-law are also visiting. Right now they are playing with SkyWalker, while I am here to let people sign up for computers. Actually he might be napping by now, but still. There's a party at my house and I'm not there.
I need to figure out how to link to other people's voxs in the body of a post. Like LJ. Anyway, jewjewbee has decided to stay and not take the job at the other library. Not that I wrote about that here, but there's an update for ya anyway. She called me at home yesterday to tell me the good news.
She was the 3rd person to call me yesterday. Which is more than I usually get. And unfortunately all phone calls were during nap time. I put SkyWalker down at 12:30ish, he started whining and complaining but was out by 12:40. I was in bed by 12:40. Trying to fall asleep, the phone rings. I can't let it go because multiple rings might wake up SkyWalker and in order for *me* to nap he needs to nap. So I jump and get it. Vader telling me we're exempt from our weekly dinner with the in-laws that night. I lay back down. Try to relax. 1 ish p.m., phone rings. BestFriend having a bad day just wanted to talk. Hang up, lay down, fall asleep. I know I was asleep because instead of taking care of SkyWalker I was taking care of BestFriend's Baby and he had somehow gotten stuck in a bed, with his head on top of the matress and his body underneath. Weird. Phone rings. 2:30, jewjewbee with good news. I lay back down. 2:55 "Mommy!"
It is 1 pm and I'm trying to delay lunch until later so then I have less time here after lunch. And I'm still freezing.
