Yesterday was SkyWalker's preschool graduation. I fully expected that at some point during the ceremony he would have to come sit with us because of stage fright. I fully expected no participation at all. Which would have been fine because, quite frankly, I wouldn't want to sing This Land is Your Land in front of a bunch of grownups taking pictures either. It started out with the kids walking in two-by-two and his teacher was smart enough to pair him with his lovely Juliet (this girl has him on a short leash). I'm pretty sure the only reason he made it down the aisle to the front was because lovely Juliet (yes that's what he calls her) was pulling him there. When they got to the front they had to go their separate ways and the teacher had to physically separate their hands because lovely Juliet was determined to just pull him along her way. Luckily he went where he was supposed to and sat where he was supposed to and stayed there. He didn't sing all the words to all the songs or do all the silly hand movements but he did *some* of them and that is a major improvement for him! I really wasn't expecting him to do anything and would have been happy with him just sitting up there the entire time. When it was time to get his diploma I thought he wouldn't come but he did and he waved to the grownups just like he was supposed to. I was really really surprised. I was also really surprised that I had to repeatedly bite my lip to keep from crying. I am seriously sleep deprived and there were lots of moms crying and Grama was crying (Vader also graduated from this preschool a million years ago) but I don't cry at these things. But seeing him actually participate and not being so shy... it was very nice to see.
The little Princess is now a year old. Her birthday was on Thursday and I am still in shock. It's been a year since we brought her into our lives and we became a multi-child family. It's been a year since I stopped working full-time and left that drama behind.
She's been on whole milk since Thursday. I am so proud that we lasted that long. She's still nursing morning and night and we'll keep that up as long as we can. I'm shooting for July. She'll be 14 months then and that's when my sister's wedding is so it would be a good time to stop. I made it to 15 months with SkyWalker and by the end it was just the morning feed. I think we can do it. She's doing okay with the milk. She has a bad diaper rash right now, but she didn't get it immediately after having the milk... she got it after pooping 4 or 5 times on Friday. Her check up is tomorrow so we'll see what it is. Wouldn't it be funny if she was somehow lactose-intolerant and I needed to start breastfeeding again? Ha.
She and her brother get into all sorts of trouble, making messes every where they go, and it's both frustrating and wonderful. There are disagreements but for the most part they get along really well.
I took that picture last year as I was preparing for the Princess's birth. The newborn diaper and SkyWalker's size 5 side by side. Guess what the Princess is wearing now? Yup, she and her brother are wearing the same size diapers. To be fair, she could probably still be in 4s but when you sleep 12 hours a night you need a bigger diaper. SkyWalker only wears his at night so he doesn't need a whole bunch. So they are both wearing the same size. Which is just too funny.
Also funny--SkyWalker insisted the other day that he needed to check his e-mail. I told him he didn't have e-mail. He said "I need e-mail" in a very matter of fact voice. So I said fine, and made him a new gmail. I only have 95 invites left. He now has his own e-mail and he e-mails his grandparents. He does all the typing--like dog and fart--and will ask me how to spell other words and then he'll type them.
He's also been making cards for everyone. I had him make a card for his sister for her birthday. So now he takes paper, draws happy face balloons on them, writes the first 2 letters of his name on it, folds it in half, and then comes up to me and says "what's it gonna be?" which means "I have a surprise, what do you think it's going to be" and then pulls a card from behind his back. He also says "what's sticking out?" I'm assuming from behind his back. He has made cards for everyone he knows, including all the dogs in the family and Nana's cat. They are all on display in various places in the house and we will soon run out of room.
Good times.
But I did let quite a bit of gas go so I'm hoping maybe that's all this is. Because I still feel crampy. Bah!
I made lists of what I need in my bag, SkyWalker's bag, and #2's bag. It's funny. Last time I printed up recommendations and totally overpacked. I never got out of the damn hospital gown. This time my list consists of: hair detangler, clothes to go home, bathroom stuff (toothbrush, etc). And a book. I had no book last time.
Why is that my dogs bark at the wind outside and blowing leaves and birds and all sorts of non-barkable items, but a weird noise in my chimney that could be a burglar coming down, or Santa, and that gets NO reaction? What the hell?
I took this picture the other day:
and it hit home what's coming. The newborn diaper on the left looks a lot smaller in real life though... And no, the other one is NOT a size 3. It's a size 5. We're going to have another BABY.
Ironically enough as I was typing my last entry, the boy was pooping. We headed upstairs for a diaper change. After much squirming and crying I finally pulled myself together and got his diaper off. Ew. It was a nice one. Anyway, he starts moving all around and while I'm wrapping the old diaper up he sits up. So I snap him up, get his shorts on and put him on the floor.
And then I see it.
Usually I see something scary before the diaper change, not after.
I see the new diaper I had laid out. I look at the boy and say "If that diaper is there, then what are YOU wearing?" and in horror I realized the answer.
I quickly scooped him up, yanked his shorts, unbuttoned his shirt, and what did I see? A free standing dangling wee-wee. Yup, I forgot the diaper. Luckily I realized it so quickly because I probably would not have changed his diaper again before daycare.
I think I should get naptime too.
